PVA LP

I love mp3, but sometimes you just want something in your hands with grooves in it. This is a return to handcrafted, truth-to- materials, kitchentable - labour- of- love bootlegging, it's a negative copy of a Sugarcubes' 12"single made from PVA glue and played on a DJ deck running in reverse. The plan is to make more durable negatives from resins, and then produce short runs of positives using woodglues. Probably Metallica records. It takes several weeks for the glue to harden sufficiently to make the discs playable. The sound quality is pretty good, although they probably have a limited life.
Any suggestions as to how to package them?

The Snow It Melts the Soonest / Omg

Audio Only. But with a Schwitters Collage. Another sketch..a mash up of two edits..a guide to idiom and etiquette for listeners learning English on the BBC World Service, and a cutup of The Snow It Melts The Soonest by the great traditional singer Ann Briggs. The collage is called "For Kate." In schools I often use Schwitters and his collage methods as an introduction to montage and the editing process. This image seems to be to do with social awkwardness...sits quite well with the track although you can hardly make it out here.. Ill get the visuals sorted out soon as Ive got Premier working again.

Whatever Happened to Al Mobiity?

Audio Only.
A piece for radio, chronicling the mysterious disappearance of a ficticious Barrow AFC Footballer, decised , scripted, performed and edited by Charlotte Ducie, Dolcie Paxton, Paige O'brien, Natasha Kosak, Bethany Carter, Cati Mulgrew, Carlotte Dawson, Lorna Sharp, Elizabeth Masson, Melissa Hogan, Adele Bassett, Jade Connolly and Eve Buzzacote of St Bernards RC School, Barrow, with David Ingham, Phill Gregg, Damian Rose,
Kate Davis, Josie Field and Poet / Broadcaster Ian McMillan. Produced as part of the Barrow AFC Digital Arts Residency, and currently featured on the Binaural Media collection, "Football Narratives".

Stakhanovite boogi / Dennis Potter / Carpenter

Audio only. But you can watch the smiley lad if you like. From Black Patch, originally released on Earth Monkey. Dennis Potter was recorded live at the monthly Warrington Improvised Music night at the Pyramid. The smiley lad is Christopher Mayhew, unlikely psychedelic pioneer and a decent sort, it seems.

Raymond Briggs in Purgatory

Further kitchentableturntablism, live in 2 chunks from Barrow Park and poorly recorded as though with a diary cam, held to a mic stand with masking tape that partly obscures its own inbuilt mic. Just two out four t/ts used here, all coming through a 10w guitar amp via a couple of fx. The record is a version of The Snowman, a lovely track.

A Field Trip

Video sketch for A Field Trip, made up of er, found footage and grabs from the BBC's M.R .James Ghost Stories. The track is made from three pieces, including Back Trouble and Tushingham, and the piano under the intro was recorded in the dressing room of the Royal Opera House while we were there to perform Glenns piece An Unthordox 1-2 in 2009.
This is the piece Im currently working on. Live versions of it have been tried out in Sheffield, using drone sketches and clacky percussion..all very Third Ear Band.

THE THREE SPIRITS

With Jim Tetlow and Glenn Boulter recorded Live at the Roxy Basement Bar , Ulverston, in the midst of the Wonderfull and Seasonal 2009 Dickensian Festival. An Invocation based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, with murky stills.
